US, BULGARIA AGREE ON MILITARY BASES BY 2006

Negotiations on repositioning US forces to bases in Bulgaria will produce concrete results at the end of 2005 or the beginning of 2006, forecasts the US Ambassador to Bulgaria. Talking in Bulgarian to the Bulgarian National Radio, John Beyrle specified that the word "military bases" is used to stand for joint military-training facilities, which will be used by the armed forces of the United States, Bulgaria and other allies. In May it was announced that Bulgaria expects to start by autumn time the procedure of signing agreements on US military bases to be deployed in the country. Bulgaria, Romania and Poland are favourite destinations for hosting US bases. At the end of 2003 Bulgaria's Parliament expressed support for the future stationing of US bases in the Balkan country.

ONLINE PAID TAXES IN BULGARIA EXCEED BGN 280,000

A total of BGN 286,489 are the taxes in Bulgaria paid through the Internet, Bulgaria's Chief Tax Directorate announced. People prefer to pay online taxes on real estates, garbage taxes and the income taxes, the Chief Tax Directorate also said. Bulgaria's Chief Tax Directorate explained that all people possessing debit cards will be able to submit their tax declarations and to pay the taxes through the Internet. Those people willing to use the services will only have to be registered in the e-pay system. Large Bulgarian companies were also able to file their VAT declarations and turnover records online through the web site of the Chief Tax Directorate The only requirement for the companies is to have digital signatures. E-signature certificates are offered at the cost of BGN 95 by Information Servicing and Bank Service.

BULGARIA'S GDP GROWS BY 6,4% Q2

Bulgaria Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2005 has grown by 6,4% compared to the same period last year. Preliminary figures by the National Statistical Institute show it amounts to BGN 9,738 B, which totals BGN 1,215 per person. Over the first six months of the year Bulgaria's economy has shows an increase of 6,2%, data from National Statistical Institute shows. The foreign trade balance remains negative, with imports exceeding exports. The National Statistical Institute reports that exports has gone up by 12%, whereas imports have increased by 15%.

BULGARIA JOINS NEWLY FORMED BALKAN HOTEL ALLIANCE

A Balkan Alliance of Hotel Associations has been established in Macedonia's Ohrid, the Bulgarian National Radio announced. The alliance that will be seated in Ohrid was created with the active participation of the Bulgarian Union of Hotel Owners whose representative Blagoy Ragin was named first chairman of the organisation. Ragin claimed that although the EU would help building infrastructure, the members of the alliance should first help themselves by emerging in the international markets together. He compared the tourist capacity of the Balkan region to that of France, and considered its inadequate use a pity. Apart from Bulgaria and Macedonia, members of the newly founded alliance are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Serbia and Montenegro. Turkey is expected to join and an invitation has also been extended to Croatia.
